Buried chests are officially part of Flatten The Mountain. You reveal them by mining through the mountain, then interact when enough surrounding blocks are cleared. A current community guide records a chest followed by a gem reward, but one observation does not establish a fixed amount, location, layer, spawn rate, ownership rule, or reward table.
Treat every chest as a useful discovery and a separate event from ordinary cash farming. Record where the mountain was in its run, expose the chest safely, open it, and check each balance or inventory field before deciding what it gave.
Recognize a buried chest
Scan newly exposed block faces and the floor after clearing a strip or receiving a layer-clear message. A chest may be partly hidden, so do not assume a small visible corner is decoration. Change camera angle and clear adjacent blocks until the object and interaction prompt are readable.
Do not dig a huge detour around a suspected shape without checking progress. Continue removing the blocks that serve both the chest search and the main objective. This keeps chest hunting productive even when the object turns out not to be interactable.
When automation is active, watch whether Drones or Turrets expose the chest. The checked sources do not establish whether automated systems can open it, damage it, block the prompt, or assign ownership.
Open a chest without corrupting a cash sample
End any timed cash sample before interacting. Record the visible layer, height or progress, party state, active power-up, and server date. Clear enough space to approach and make the prompt visible.
Open the chest once, then check cash, gems, pickaxe inventory, boosts, and any popup. Take a before-and-after note. An animation alone may not identify the reward, and a simultaneous ore break or teammate action can change cash at the same moment.
Start a new mining timer afterward. This keeps the rare chest event from inflating the ordinary cash-per-minute route and lets you value chests as their own progression source.

What is known about rewards
The official Roblox description confirms that players can find buried chests. It does not name the contents. A September 1 community guide reports gems and shows one example associated with a batch of 50 gems. That is a useful dated observation, not a guaranteed amount.
Another server, layer, update, account state, or chest type may behave differently. Do not write “every chest gives 50 gems” without repeated current results. Also do not assume a chest can never give cash, a power-up, or another item simply because one observation showed gems.
Use the Gems guide to track how the confirmed balance is spent. Keep the reward source attached to the chest record so a later update can change the value without rewriting the entire mining route.
Test whether locations repeat
Capture the mountain state and a stable visual reference with each find. Compare several full runs. A repeated location can suggest a pattern, but it may still depend on layer generation, server seed, player count, or a fixed mountain layout.
Avoid publishing coordinates from one screenshot. If a location repeats, explain how the player recognizes it from the current layer and which blocks must be removed. If it does not repeat, describe chests as discoveries revealed during normal mining rather than sending players to a false fixed spot.
Check whether chests respawn in the same server, return after a reset, or appear once per run. Each result requires a full surrounding context. Waiting beside an opened chest without knowing the reset condition does not establish a timer.
Group chest behavior
In a group, note who first exposes the chest, who interacts, which balances change, and whether more than one prompt is available. Do not assume the opener owns the reward or that every player receives it.
If a teammate opens the chest off-screen, record the result as incomplete. Ask them what popup appeared, but distinguish their report from your visible balance. Repeat deliberately with clear roles if sharing matters to your route.

Do not leave a visible chest buried solely to protect a cash timer; stop the timer and open it. Do not count a popup as a fixed drop without checking the balance. Do not assume every chest appears on the same layer. Do not turn a single community screenshot into a map.
If the prompt does not appear, clear adjacent blocks, change camera position, wait for automation to move, and approach from another side. Rejoin only after confirming the object is a chest and the route is not still obstructed.
