Total progress can improve even when one source does not. A player may mine fewer blocks personally after buying drones while the whole mountain falls faster. Measure the goal you actually care about: personal cash, total blocks, layer time, or full-run completion.

Cash is a flow, not just a balance

The cash balance equals previous cash plus earnings minus spending. Looking only at the ending balance can make a productive run look weak after an expensive upgrade or make a slow run look strong when no purchases were made. Record the starting amount, earned amount when visible, purchases, and final amount.

For a farming comparison, keep spending outside the timed window. Note ore blocks, power-ups, eagle downtime, chests, and teammate activity. If the interface does not identify who receives automated income, compare both cash and total progress before drawing a conclusion.

Current community material states that blocks award cash and presents special ores as higher-value targets. The exact per-block formula, durability relationship, automation credit, and party sharing are not creator-documented. Read layer progress correctly

Community gameplay shows messages such as a numbered layer being cleared. Treat that message as confirmation that the current horizontal section is finished, not proof of the mountain’s permanent total depth. At every layer transition, scan for new ore appearances, chest exposure, changed block resistance, and new upgrade pressure. Do not rush immediately into the same pattern. The most valuable upgrade can change if blocks become harder, targets spread differently, or automation spends more time traveling.

The safest general response is to stop committing to a long mining action, move out of the visible danger, observe the strike, and then check the player and automation state before resuming. If no warning appears in your version, use the actual audio, visual, or ground cue from the current encounter rather than searching for a color that may have changed.

An eagle event can make two upgrade samples incomparable. Record when it happened and how much productive time was lost. This turns the hazard into a known interruption instead of letting it create a false cash or speed conclusion.
